Rev John Hartley
Superintendant Minister
I am John Hartley and I came to serve the church in Doncaster in 2004. Since that time
I have served in a number of different churches but my core responsibility has always been to be the minister of Hexthorpe Methodist Curch. In September 2010, I became the Superintendent minister of the Doncaster circuit and in addition to my role
at Hexthorpe, I also have responsibility for Tickhill Methodist Church and Sprotborough Road Community Church. I am very much a minister in the evangelical tradition, I come from a non-church background and really
want to share what it means to discover faith in Jesus Christ. I know that the gospel has a power to change, and feel that I am living proof of that.
I very much believe that the Christian message is a timeless truth, but I am committed to conveying that truth in new and hopefully exciting and interesting ways. Where appropriate I use multimedia presentations, my own drama scripts, puppets and modern music to enhance worship. I am committed to communicating the gospel to all ages. I believe that powerful expository preaching and simple methods of communication are vital for Christians to grow into maturity and I strive to communicate to that end.
I am married to Miranda who is not only my wife, but my best friend and partner in the ministry to which I believe we were both called. Miranda brings to fruition and in many cases provides the seeds of the ideas especially when it comes to All Age Worship and the puppets so we are very much a team.
We have two grown up married daughters, (we were very young when we were married and started our family). Outside the church, we love being away in our caravan, walking especially in the Lake District. I very much enjoy paddle sports, especially sea kayaking, though sadly I do not get the opportunity to get out onto the water as much as I would like. Miranda will join me in our Canadian canoe, so if you see a car with a red canoe strapped to the roof towing a caravan give it a wave….it just might be me!
