Mr Roger Thirlwell – Anna Chaplain
I was born in Doncaster and grew up on a farm opposite
the Methodist Chapel in Adwick-le-Street. My family were, for several
generations, part of the worshipping community there. I went to Woodhouse Grove
School, a Methodist boarding school and after a year working on the farm. I
went to Askham Bryan College near York for a couple of years to study
agriculture and animal husbandry.
Chris and I were married at Adwick and our careers in
teaching and the agricultural supply industry took us to various parts of the
country before returning to Doncaster in 2001.
Our daughter, Emma, and her family live in Hampshire.
David, our son, lives near Leeds with his family. We have 4 grandchildren and
delight in seeing them and their parents as often as we can.
I support Leeds United and go to as many games as
possible, often seeing David there. Our grandson, James, will sometimes go in
my place.
On returning to Doncaster, we became members at St
Andrews Methodist Church. We are the Pastoral Secretaries there, and it’s
through this involvement, that I began to explore Anna Chaplaincy, having
learnt about it whilst visiting Alton, Hampshire, where it started.
I look forward to meeting you and hope that the Anna
Chaplaincy ministry will be of help to you as we seek to care for those in
their “twilight” years.
