Bawtry's Unmissable Landmark – Bawtry Methodist Chapel

Bawtry Methodist Church holds a commanding location at the top of the town that can be seen from entering the main road from the direction of Retford, Gainsbrough and the A1 heading towards Doncaster. It is still part of the Doncaster Methodist Circuit holding services every Sunday at 10.30 am; the first Sunday of the month the service starts at 2.30 pm. Bawtry Methodist Church held it's 120th Anniversary in 2023 (please see the news item from their celebrations).

' Bawtry Heritage Group consists of people who have an interest in the very rich history and heritage of Bawtry, which is a small market town in the very south of South Yorkshire adjacent to Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.'

Mr Mick McGuire of the Bawtry Heritage Group has written a comprehensive history of Bawtry Methodist Chapel – as a building rather than Methodism. Doncaster Methodist Circuit is honoured to have been given permission to share this document and thank Mr McGuire for his tireless research.
