Bible Month – Alder Grove

Bible Month at Alder Grove Methodist Church – the book of Philippians

Alder Grove have been following the book of Philippians for Bible month.

They ended the final session by hosting a café church and using the activities suggested in the four week study guide, built a service around the suggestions given.

As well as the traditional reading and beautiful hymns, which matched the theme perfectly, rejoice in the Lord always, Praise to the Lord the Almighty, In Christ alone, I watch the sunrise, and colours of day. Tabletop thoughts to ‘share’ were discussed, along with the ‘explore’ activity.

To give our brains a rest, we shared the ‘create’ activity which involved a ball of wool. The look of surprise on everyone’s faces as this was taken from a bag. The first reaction was –“are you going to teach us how to knit?”  The idea was for someone to start with the ball of wool and pass it to someone else in the circle offering that person a word showing God’s grace towards them. We ended up with what appeared to be a spiders web linking everyone together. We spent a few minutes talking about God’s grace flowing through each one of us, connecting and blessing each person.

The pictures show our bubble prayer time. Instead of saying responses to prayers, we offered bubbles and watched them rise and burst, giving the analogy of them reaching God, and spreading joy into the world.

It was a blessed end and a different way of celebrating our Sunday morning worship.

P.S. everyone was delighted when they were allowed to take their bubbles home.
