Circuit
Service – Cantley Methodist Church
We
held our first Circuit Service of the year on Sunday 8th March 2026
at Cantley Methodist Church. We had
hoped to welcome the new Sheffield Methodist District Chair – Rev Vicky Atkins
to lead us in worship, but sadly she had caught the Superintendent’s Retreat
lurgy from the week before. Our
Superintendent Rev John Henry took the service in Vicky’s absence.
The
church was so full, chairs had to be opened up on the stage at the back! Rev John used the Order of Service set out by
Vicky, using his own address.
The
Woman at the Well – John 4: 5-42 was read by Local Preacher Chris Ogley.
We
were reminded that a simple conversation can change our direction, reshape our
understanding or open an unexpected door.
This simple conversation between Jesus and the woman crossed social,
cultural and religious boundaries. Jesus
revealed something profound about who he is and the kind of relationship God
wants with us all. The conversation
transforms the woman’s life and through her transforms a whole community.
Encounters
with Jesus can transform everything.
Rev
John Henry’s Address – Jesus is the
Living water – who can quench the deepest thirst.
Encounter
– Jesus went out of his way – it was not a coincidence that he met the woman at
the well. This was divine encounter.
Exchange
– there was a conversation – a real sense of encounter. The woman was thirsty and understood during
this encounter she was thirsty for God.
Are
we, the Circuit, thirsty for God?Eureka
– I’ve found it. Through this encounter and exchange the woman
may have said or thought or felt- “I’ve found It” she had found the answer to
her need.
Are
we thirsty for the living waters of Jesus. Philippians 4 v 19 “And my God will
supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”“As
we grow in grace as individuals and a Circuit lets have that encounter, seek
for the exchange and the eureka moment and to Him be glory in the church.”
We
sang some rousing hymns – including
O
for a thousand tongues to singSpeak,
O Lord, as we come to you
I
heard the voice of Jesus say
I
the Lord of sea and sky
Concluding
with – And can it be
Following
the service we gathered in the Wesley Room for refreshment and fellowship.
A
wonderfully uplifting time of praise and worship!
