At the end of March the Circuit was very pleased to welcome Rev Richard Andrew with District Chair Rev Vicky Atkins and Synod Secretary Rev Sean Adair.
Their visit started by participating in the Circuit Leadership Team away day meeting hosted by our Superintendent Minister Rev John Henry. The meeting started with a song, accompanied by Rev John on guitar.
We discussed various topics including having guest speaker Pioneer and student Minister Jonathan Hood who gave us an insight into his work as a New Places for New People Pioneer in the Chesterfield area. Jonathan spent many months chatting with the local community – in parks, in shops, in the street, in community groups. Beginning very gradually, Jonathan now has a number of groups and a church formed as a result of his mission. It was very inspiring and encouraging as the Circuit explores NPNP opportunities in the Toll Bar area of Doncaster.
Rev John introduced our 3 legged stool (as mentioned in the Circuit Meeting) a strategic approach to delivering our Mission Statement – Discipleship and Mission in the name of Christ; a leg for Pastoral Care, a leg for Leadership and a leg for Governance – that when all three are equal the stool is firm and steady, when one leg is longer than the other the stool fails to support.
There was positive discussion throughout the meeting and ideas and thoughts from Rev Richard and Rev Vicky.
Later in the day Rev Richard, Rev Vicky and Rev Sean were invited to Tickhill Methodist Church as members of the Tickhill Methodist Outreach Team prepared food for their weekly visit to Doncaster City Centre. Rev Richard and Rev John helped the team hand out food to the homeless and vulnerable people of the City. (pictures to come)
The Doncaster Circuit is very grateful for the visit and support shown by the President and District Chair. We hope they may be able to visit us again soon.
